About me

---

I'm an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computing at the University of São Carlos (UFSCar) since December 2020. In 2020, I was a Post-Doctoral research fellow at the University of São Paulo (USP). This research was supported by the State of São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) grants 2019/14429-5. I received my Ph.D. and M.Sc degrees from the University of Sao Paulo (USP), Institute of Mathematical and Computer Sciences (ICMC), in 2019 and 2014, respectively. These researches were supported by the CAPES (Coordinating Agency for Advanced Training of Graduate Personnel). I obtained my Diploma, Bachelor of Computer Science, from the University of Sao Paulo (USP), Institute of Mathematical and Computer Sciences (ICMC), São Carlos, 2011. Furthermore, I spent wonderful years (2010-2012) as a professional Web Developer (full-stack).

Research Interests

---

My interest lies broadly in the area of machine learning, with a focus on social network analysis and text mining. Throughout my studies, I have worked on multilevel methods and multiscale analysis applied in classical machine learning problems, as community detection, transductive classification and graph visualization. Furthermore, I worked in the analysis of large-scale (or massive) graphs in the size range from thousands to millions of edges and vertices, consequently, I started to read and learn about parallel and distributed computing paradigms. Especially, I studied Python deeply enough to apply it to my research projects and I have extensive hands-on experience in Applied Machine Learning in Python.

Currently, I am in the Data Mining and Applications research group (MIDAS, from the Portuguese Mineração de Dados e Aplicações); Center for Sociopolitical Studies of Algorithms and Artificial Intelligence (INTERFACES, from the Portuguese Núcleo de Estudos Sociopolíticos dos Algoritmos e da Inteligência Artificial); and I am the coordinator of the Data Processing and Analysis Group at UFSCar (PANDA, from the Português Grupo de Processamento e ANálise de DAdos da UFSCar).
