KES 2008 - 12TH INTERNATIONAL
CONFERENCE ON KNOWLEDGE-BASED AND INTELLIGENT
INFORMATION & ENGINEERING
SYSTEMS
3, 4 AND 5 SEPTEMBER 2008
CALL FOR PAPERS FOR INVITED
SESSION (IS09) ON
Computational
Intelligent Techniques for Bioprocess
Modelling,
Monitoring and Control
I. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE SESSION
SCOPE
Conventionally, the modeling and control of bioprocesses are performed
by a set of differential equations based on mass balances. Finding an
appropriate and reliable mathematical set of equations, as well as their right
set of parameter values, is a time-consuming task mainly due to the inherent
complexity of such processes, such as their time-dependency, the non-linearity
of the reactions and the uncertainties typical of biological reactions. In
recent years a growing number of works have investigated the use of
computational intelligent techniques aiming at modeling and monitoring
different aspects related to bioprocesses, in an attempt to provide alternative
and more flexible strategies to implement these tasks. This special session
intends to be a forum for engineers, researchers and
practitioners throughout the world to discuss ideas, experiences and results
related to the use of computational intelligence based strategies such as (but
not limited to):
|
· Genetic algorithms |
· Search algorithms |
· Symbolic algorithms |
|
· Neural networks |
· Bayesian networks |
· Genetic programming |
|
· Simulated annealing |
· Feature selection |
· Clustering |
|
· Neuro-fuzzy
systems |
· Fuzzy systems |
· Hybrid approaches |
in bioprocesses including (but not
limited to):
|
· Modelling |
· Inference of parameter and process variables |
|
· Software sensors |
· Data pre-processing (filtering/smothering) |
|
· Parameter estimation |
· On-line optimization, monitoring and control |
|
· State estimation |

II. INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS
(1) Papers should correspond to the KES2008 Conference
format requirements detailed in the Instructions to Authors section, on the KES
2008 site:
http://kes2008.kesinternational.org/
(2)
Please note that the paper length is limited to eight pages in Springer format.
Papers longer than this will be subject to a penalty charge. Papers much longer
or shorter than the required length may be rejected, at the decision of the
organizers. All accepted papers must be presented by one of the authors who
must register. Authors are restricted to one paper per registration. All
accepted papers will be in the KES 2008 proceedings published by Springer-Verlag as the Lecture Notes in AI series.
(3)
Papers must be submitted via the PROSE portal available on the conference web
site. When authors submit a paper, he/she will be presented with a drop-down
box which has the Invited Sessions listed. He/she will be required to select
the appropriate Invited Session.
